Let's get started and add some super cute handmade mushrooms to your car!🍄

Materials

  • G crochet hook

  • Medium Weight yarn (4)

    • Green - 5 yards

    • Red - 7 yards

    • White - 7 yards

  • Scissors

  • Tapestry Needle

  • Stuffing

Abbreviations

  • ch - chain

  • dc - double crochet

  • dec - single crochet decrease (see special stitches)

  • f/o - fasten off

  • hdc - half double crochet

  • inc - single crochet increase

  • sc - single crochet

  • slst - slip stitch

  • st(s) - stitch(es)

Special Stitches

  • Decrease (dec): Insert your hook into the front loop of the next two sts sequentially, yarn over, pull through 2 loops (pull through the front loops), pull through 2 loops (finishing the sc).

Additional Notes

  • You don’t necessarily need to have medium-weight yarn, but know that using smaller yarn will make the car hanging smaller and may make it unable to fit around a car mirror. Therefore, if using a smaller yarn, I would make the chain longer.

Pattern

Stem

Ch 60, f/o.

Leaves

Ch 16. Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, [*sc, hdc, dc 3 times, hdc, sc*, slst (top of first leaf). Ch 1, repeat from * to * (top of the second leaf)]. Now repeat from [ to ], going into the bottom of the ch sts. F/o and weave in ends.

Using your crochet hook, place your hook underneath the ch’s made in the middle of the leaves, and pull the stem through just a bit, leaving a loop.

Mushrooms (x2)

Mushroom Cap

Row 1: Create a magic circle using the red yarn, and place 8 sc in the circle. (8)

Row 2: Inc in each stitch around. Do not hide the yarn end from the magic circle - keep it in the middle of the sphere. (16)

Row 3 - 4: Sc in each stitch around. (16)

Slst into next st, f/o leaving a long tail about 2" longer than the circumference of the mushroom cap.

Using your crochet hook, insert your hook into the center of the magic circle, and pull the yarn tail from the stem through. Tie the end of the magic circle with the end of the stem to secure it.

Mushroom Cap Spots

Cut around 10" of the white yarn. Using the tapestry needle, embroider 4 spots on the cap by starting on the inside of the cap, threading the needle up, then inserting the needle down one stitch or row over. Repeat 3 more times, making the shape of an X or t. Then, tie the two ends together on the inside of the cap.

Mushroom Stem

Row 1: Create a magic circle with the white yarn, and place 8 sc in the circle. (8)

Row 2: *Sc 3 times, inc*, repeat from * to * one more time. (10)

Row 3 - 4: Sc in each stitch around. (10)

Row 5: *Sc 3 times, dec*, repeat from * to * one more time. (8)

Row 6: Sc in each stitch around. (8)

Row 7: Inc in each stitch around. Slst to first sc. F/o. (16)

Add stuffing into the stem.

Joining the Mushroom Together

With the tail end of the mushroom cap in your tapestry needle, join the mushroom cap and stem together by matching one stitch on the cap to one stitch on the stem, working in the front loops of both the cap and stem. Once you get to where you started, tie off the tail and hide the ends.

Then you're done! I really hope that you enjoy this pattern. I'd love it if you tagged me in the finished product @mae.crochets on Instagram!🍄
